Sasikala Venkatesan- Dancing her way to success

The term BHARATHAM is self – explanatory  ‘Bha’ in bharatham stands for ‘bhava’, ‘ra’ stands for ‘raga’ and ‘tha’ stands for ‘thalam’. The archaic dance is presumed to be 2000 years old. It originated in South India. During the reign of marathas, the art form has attained its peak. The historical dance propagated all over India in the name of sadir naatiyam. This spiritual form of dance lost its virginity with various foreign invasions. Fortunately it is sustained in Tamil Nadu.  . It’s our duty to preserve the customary dance of Tamil Nadu. Few people take pains for the revival of extinct relic of our ancient heritage. One among them is “NATYATHILAKAM, NATTUVANGAKALAIMANI SMT.SASIKALA VENKATESAN, an eminent artist in classical dances has been rendering service in promoting the divine art with, devotion and diligence for more than two decades. She dedicated herself in teaching BharathaNatyam in its wholesome charm and produced many number of good disciples. She was Inspired by the stupendous and splendid performance of smt. Chandra Parthasarathy her guru. Smt.Sasikala is a Master of fine Arts (Dance) from Annamalai University and Completed the course titled nattuvangakalaimani. She made a special style in her snake dance. It is been appreciated and admired by renowned artists for its elegance and poised movements. She presented many mind blowing epical dance dramas introducing informative and innovative techniques. She has been honoured with various awards and titles for her efficient and excellent performances in popular Natyanjaliprogrammes at Chidambaram, Thiruvaiyaru, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur and so forth. She is been honoured as ‘Natyathilakam, ‘Natyajothi, by “Iyarapparnatyanjali”, Thiruvaiyaru. She is now devoting her entire time to nurture the heavenly dance through her Saraswathi Natalaya, No: 127, NGGO Nagar, Chengalpattu. She has staged many group and solo performances. She appraised various dance competitions. She successfully completed many Arangetram and Salangaipooja programmes in and around Chengalpattu. She is a member of District Art Society, Kancheepuram.
