For eight long years, she was the reigning queen of India's longest running game show - Jackpot - on Jaya TV. Then Khushboo showed her political colours - she joined the DMK, the archenemy of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, in whose name Jaya TV is run.
That was the end of her long innings with ‘Jackpot’ and Jaya TV. She was quickly shown the door and the game show suspended.
‘Jackpot’ has so far beamed 400 episodes in which 800 teams have participated. About 8,000 questions were posed to 3,200 participants and the lucky ones took home Rs 4 crore worth prizes.
Apart from the "gripping, interactive concept", most people tuned in to Jaya TV for ‘Jackpot’ to watch Khushboo lord it over the lesser beings in all her splendour. One woman viewer went on air and said she watched ‘Jackpot’ regularly only to see what designer blouse Khushboo was sporting for that episode! A note from Jaya TV aptly says that the anchor’s “every costume was a fashion statement”.
Then began the hunt for a suitable replacement for Khusboo to anchor the show. Finally, the cable channel zeroed in on actress Nadhiya, a star in her own right.
Nadhiya hopped on the Tamil film bandwagon with the super hit 'Poove Poochoodava'. After other successful films, she slowly disappeared from the scene. She came back with a bang as a youthful mother in 'M Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi' and proved that she was ready for a second innings.
Now she takes over Jackpot - Season 2 and one has to wait till June 13, 2010, Sunday, 8 p.m. to see how good an anchor she can be and if she would be the right replacement for the vivacious Khushboo.
