Puducherry is synonymous with Annai and Aurobindo ashram. And it is also famous for handicrafts and ceramic items. There are many shops which sell handicrafts and Auroshree, located on Nehru Street, is one of them.
Auroshree is Auro for Aurobindo and Shree - for Annai - Mother.
It is handicrafts galore and all items are made of wood, bronze, copper, wax, etc.
The alluring wood tea tables, which are intricately carved, are three- and four-legged and have exquisite workmanship. Similarly, wooden stands which act as curtains are a connoisseur’s delight. They can be folded into a single piece and are portable.
The armchairs are elegant with long handles which transport us to a different era.
Flower vases and elephants are attractive with their carvings.
Ceramic items include jugs, teapots, trays and plates. Paintings are embossed on them giving them a rich look. The white and blue paintings look fabulous. It is fashionable to decorate our house entrances with tall stout jars. It is generally in terracotta but here you can find ceramic jars which are big and are ideal to be kept outside.
Tiny teacups invite us to have tea.
Auroshree is a shopper’s delight and is stocked with beautiful items which attract us.
